I need the machine type and serial number of my T440s. I can't find it at the bottom of the laptop. Is this normal? I remember that it was clearly visible on my old T420s.

In that case you might appreciate this approach (run from command line):

Found it: Unlike other models, the T440s displays the S/N and machine type in the battery compartment. Thus, to see it, you have to remove the battery.

This is what I'm shown for about 3 sec before normal boot starts. It's one big annoyance on my otherwise perfect X230.
Google tells you need to enter your serial number manually using Lenovo's Hardware Maintenance Diskette tool which they don't distribute to consumers. I though got my hands on the latest version 1.89 through different forums. It does allow you to create a USB FDD to boot from. I created USB but it doesn't boot. When I create bootable USB HDD instead with NetBootin it does boot and tool fires up. But it doesn't perform it's function because its expecting an FDD.
Anyone else having faced this error? How did you got around it? And any tips on creating a bootable USB FDD...
Thanks for your time.
